A.) The skill that I am choosing to discuss is 1- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Survival Skills.
B.)Yesterdays solution does not solve tomorrow's problems.
C.) One thing that I had to do in this class that pertains to the first survival skill was on the first day of class we had to go right to work. We had to follow the directions on the website and figure out how to do everything by ourselves for the most part and had to think it through.
D.) One project that I have had in high school that pertains to this survival skill was in oceanography. For the final project in the class we had to write a paper about overfishing and by-catch. The reason that I had to use critical thinking and problem solving skills while completing the project was because we did not get much time in class to work on it and we had to figure out how to do much of the project on our own.

    A) 1. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.
    B) Whenever man comes up with a better mousetrap, nature immediately comes up with a better mouse. -James Carswell
    C) In this class I have done a few things that have helped develop this skill. One thing that has helped me is looking at the plan for the day. Sometimes I don’t understand what is written and I think hard about what is trying to be said to us. I ask people next to me and we figure out a solution together. Also I had to come up with a definition of one of the survival skills on the spot.
    D) One project I completed was in eighth grade. It helped display the survival skill Collaborating across networks and Leading by influence. The project was called the outreach project. We had to find out a way to help some sort of charity. We came up with a kickball game that required an admission fee of three dollars. All the money went to a charity and we felt great about ourselves. This helped display the survival skill because we led by example and helped out people in need.

C.) So far in this class, even though it’s the second day, I have already started developing my skills involving critical thinking. For example, I have had to resolve many problems involving computer issues and following explicit directions for tasks. Also, I have had to describe a quote on critical thinking on the spot.

D.)Writing essays are always difficult, but they are a great way to directly develop important survival skills;one of them being Critical Thinking. I feel this way mostly because essays are tough to begin with. You have to brainstorm and come up with all of the information you can. Then you have to try to organize the thoughts into paragraphs in a way that makes sense. It takes a lot of trial and error. Even when you think you’re done, you still need to revise and try to make it better. So, all of the different tasks that are involved in writing an essay help advance Critical Thinking skills.

    A. I will be discussing Survival Skill number three which is Agility and Adaptability.

    B. The famous astrophysicist Stephen Hawking once made a statement which relates to this survival skill. “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” In a nutshell, this quote clearly means that we need to be able to adapt in order to function and survive! If we could not adapt to the changes in our environment, not only would we not be intelligent, but we also wouldn’t be able to survive.

    C. This Computer class provides a perfect setting for agility and adaptability. When an assignment is given to us in the class, we are expected to complete it to the best of our ability. Sometimes computers can have issues, or certain programs do not work properly. When this happens, we have to find alternative methods of completing the task given, which is an example of adapting. I can promote this skill in our class by advising students to try different things in order to solve problems. They might not realize it, but they will be adapting when they do this.

    D. I utilized this survival skill when I was taking the Introduction to Business course. Our class was assigned a project, and we had to work in teams of three. I didn’t know many students in the class, so I asked two boys sitting next to me if they would like to work together. After completing my portion of the project, I realized that my partners were not doing much work, and were not taking the assignment seriously. Our deadline was coming up, and my partners part of the project was not yet finished. Fortunately, I was able to adapt to my situation! I stayed after school and worked on a computer in order to get the job done. I was not expecting to have to do that but problems came up and I needed to adapt in order to deal with them. I finished the project on my own and let the teacher know that my partners were not willing to contribute to the assignment. If I had not adapted, the project would not have gotten done and my grade would have suffered.
